UNU Jogja Informatics Student Wins Second Place in DIY 2026 Provincial Student Arts Competition Poster Design Category

Yogyakarta, Indonesia – Ahmad Abdul Latif, a 2024 Informatics student at Universitas Nahdlatul Ulama Yogyakarta (UNU Jogja), won second place in the Poster Design category at the 2026 Yogyakarta Provincial Student Arts Competition (Peksimiprov DIY).

Ahmad said he had not originally planned to compete in the poster design category. He initially intended to participate in the poetry or short story writing competition. However, he later registered for poster design and became UNU Jogja's delegate after being the only student to enter the university's internal selection for the category.

"I initially planned to join the poetry or short story competition. Then I decided to try the poster design category. I did not expect to pass the internal selection, but I eventually became UNU Jogja's representative at Peksimiprov DIY," he said.

During the competition, Ahmad admitted that he felt less confident because many participants had strong hand-drawing skills. In contrast, he relied mainly on his digital design skills using CorelDRAW.

Despite his initial doubts, Ahmad finished as the second-place winner. First place was awarded to a student from the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Yogyakarta, while third place went to a participant from Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM).

"I was quite surprised by the result. Unfortunately, I was unable to attend the award ceremony because I was ill, so I watched the announcement through a YouTube livestream," he said.

According to Ahmad, his achievement was supported by the knowledge and skills he gained during his studies. In his second semester, he took a Multimedia course covering fundamental design principles, including the golden ratio, layout, color palettes, and other visual design elements.

He said the course provided a solid foundation for developing his concept and executing his poster design during the competition.

Head of the Informatics Department, Yana Hedriana, commended Ahmad's achievement, saying it adds to the department's record of student accomplishments in the arts while demonstrating that classroom learning can be applied effectively in provincial-level competitions.

"This achievement shows that Informatics students are not limited to technological expertise. Creativity, visual thinking, and the skills developed through academic learning can become valuable assets for excelling in various competitions. We hope more students will have the confidence to seize opportunities and continue developing their potential," Yana said. [Latifah]
