Yogyakarta, Indonesia – Students of the English Education Department at Universitas Nahdlatul Ulama Yogyakarta (UNU Jogja) showcased their English skills through English Showcase 2026, held on Tuesday (Feb 3).
The Head of the English Education Study Program, Khusnul Harsul Lisan, stated that English Showcase is part of practice-based learning designed to strengthen students’ language skills, not only academically but also in real-life applications. The event also serves as the final project output from several courses in the department as part of the implementation of the Outcome-Based Education (OBE) curriculum.
“Through various performances and presentations, students are encouraged to actively use English in public through engaging and creative formats,” she said.
A wide range of performances were presented, including news anchoring, talk shows, drama performances, and academic journal presentations. In addition, students showcased projects from courses such as Developing Learning and Media and English Instructional Technology, demonstrating their ability to integrate language skills with technology and creative media as content creators.
The event highlighted that English learning at UNU Jogja focuses not only on theory but also on practical applications in professional communication, academic contexts, and media.
Performances such as Speaking for General Communication, Pragmatic-Semantic Drama, and roles as news presenters demonstrated the students’ readiness to use English in real-life situations.
Beyond language proficiency, the showcase also helped students develop public speaking skills, teamwork, creativity, and self-confidence.
The English Showcase stage became a space for students to express themselves while building the confidence to perform before an audience.
Through this event, the English Education Department of UNU Jogja continues to foster an active and communicative learning environment, supporting students in becoming well-prepared to compete in a global world that demands cross-linguistic communication skills. [Latifah]
