Nurturing Young Innovators: UNU Jogja and Gimbalabs Launch Web3 Bootcamp with USD 5,000 Prize

Yogyakarta, Indonesia - The Faculty of Information Technology (FTI) at UNU Jogja has launched the Building Campus Web3 Literacy Bootcamp on Cardano Blockchain. The program is organized in collaboration with Gimbalabs Indonesia and DevWeb3 Jogja. Running from August 8 to October 15, 2025, the initiative offers intensive training combined with a hackathon competition with a total prize pool of USD 5,000.

The bootcamp, centered at UNU Jogja’s Computer Laboratory, involves both UNU Jogja students and members of the DevWeb3 Jogja community. Organizers have also provided a dedicated basecamp house as a collaborative learning and co-working space for participants.

Pipit Febriana Dewi, Secretary of the Informatics Study Program at FTI UNU Jogja, explained that the program consists of an introduction to blockchain and Cardano, six technical workshops on decentralized application (dApp) development, six live coding sessions with mentors, and a hackathon hosted through the hackquest.io platform.

According to her, the hackathon is the highlight of the event, with five winning teams each receiving USD 1,000 along with incubation opportunities for global funding programs, including Project Catalyst.

“In addition to the training, UNU Jogja is also preparing to establish a Blockchain Student Club as a hub for Web3 literacy and technological innovation on campus,” she added.

One of the participants, Mohammad Fattachul ’Alim, found the bootcamp to be a valuable opportunity. “Blockchain is not part of our campus curriculum, but here we can access it for free. Normally, it would cost millions of rupiah,” he remarked.

This initiative reflects a strategic step by UNU Jogja, together with Gimbalabs and DevWeb3, to prepare a new generation of blockchain developers ready to compete at the global level. [Contributor: M. Fattachul A, Informatics Student at FTI UNU Jogja]
