Yogyakarta, Indonesia – The Task Force for the Prevention and Handling of Violence in Higher Education (SATGAS PPKPT) at Universitas Nahdlatul Ulama Yogyakarta (UNU Jogja) continues to strengthen efforts to prevent sexual violence on campus by raising awareness and fostering collaboration among the academic community.
This initiative aims to build awareness, courage, and empathy within the university environment, particularly among students, who are considered vulnerable to various forms of sexual violence.
A representative of the SATGAS PPKPT team, Saeroni, emphasized that strong collaboration among all members of the academic community—including lecturers and administrative staff—is key to the success of prevention programs.
“Our main concern is the students. We recognize that students are still vulnerable when facing situations of sexual violence, whether due to fear of reporting or other factors,” Saeroni stated during the Civitas Assembly on Monday, April 20.
In addition to sexual violence issues, Saeroni also highlighted several challenges faced by students today, including radicalism, conflict and criminal acts, physical violence, drug abuse, free association, mental health issues, as well as online loans and online gambling.
He added that exposure to the digital world has also made students vulnerable to cybercrime, such as scams and sexual violence involving threats and extortion. Students are also at risk of social issues such as bullying, sexual violence, and mental health problems.
“We all have a role as ‘parents’ for students within the campus environment,” he stressed.
As part of its commitment, SATGAS PPKPT UNU Jogja actively provides programs such as awareness campaigns, peer support initiatives, reporting services, and assistance and counseling for the academic community, especially students.
The SATGAS PPKPT UNU Jogja services can be accessed through the hotline at 0877-6270-3887 or via email at satgasppkpt@unu-jogja.ac.id.
Through these efforts, UNU Jogja aims to create a safe, comfortable, and violence-free campus environment, enabling the implementation of the university’s tridharma (education, research, and community service) to run optimally. [Latifah]
