UNU Jogja Capstone Project Expo: Electrical Engineering Students' Creativity Produces Appropriate Technology

Yogyakarta, Indonesia – Students from the Electrical Engineering Study Program at Nahdlatul Ulama University (UNU) Jogja showcased a variety of technology projects and innovations at the Electrical Engineering Capstone Project Expo on Thursday, July 31. Held at the 4th Floor Electrical Laboratory of UNU Jogja, the exhibition was attended by campus leaders, academic staff, and the general public.

The event, part of the students’ final thesis requirements, also served as a platform to turn ideas into practical solutions that benefit society and align with industry needs.

“In addition to fulfilling thesis requirements, this expo encourages students to create impactful technological innovations addressing real-world problems,” said Bledug Kusuma Prasaja, a lecturer in Electrical Engineering at UNU Jogja.

Student projects focused on societal challenges, such as early education on waste types and separation, leading to innovations like a Microcontroller-Based Waste Sorting Device and Pilah.in, a sensor-based waste sorter.

Other showcased innovations included an IoT-Based Smart Water Quality Measurement System, Smartphone Radiation Detector, Solar Inverter Output Wave Monitor, Precision Landing Medical Delivery Drone, Hydroponic Nutrient Mixer with IPAL, and Portable Oxygen Saturation and Heart Rate Monitor.

UNU Jogja Senior Vice-Rector Abdul Ghoffar praised the students’ work: “These innovations demonstrate that UNU Jogja students can create technologies that meet market demands and current technological trends.”

Through the Capstone Project Expo, UNU Jogja reaffirms its commitment to fostering collaboration between academic research, technological innovation, and societal needs, particularly in the Electrical Engineering program, which equips students to produce solutions that are academically valuable and practically impactful.
