Solo, Indonesia – The Decarbonomics Team facilitated a Lifecycle Assessment (LCA) Workshop for postgraduate students of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Solo, on Tuesday, September 23. The activity was part of a series of regular training programs and workshops designed to strengthen academic capacity in the field of sustainability.
The half-day workshop provided comprehensive materials on the fundamental concepts and stages of LCA. Participants were introduced to the “Cradle to Grave” approach as well as specialized software commonly used to conduct LCA analysis.
Through this session, students gained practical skills in assessing the lifecycle of products and services. The analysis enabled them to thoroughly understand the environmental impacts—from production processes to the end of a product’s lifespan.
In her presentation, Akmilatul Maghfiroh, Executive Director of the Decarbonomics Center, highlighted the increasingly crucial role of carbon accountants in today’s global economy. She emphasized that LCA has become a key foundation of trade geopolitics, underlining a significant shift where environmental data is now inseparable from economic data.
She further noted that both government institutions and companies in Indonesia must strengthen their capacity in applying LCA. This effort, she said, is vital to enhance the competitiveness of Indonesian products in international markets that increasingly prioritize sustainability standards.
Through this workshop, UNS postgraduate students not only broadened their academic perspectives but were also prepared to integrate sustainable approaches into future economic and business practices. [Latifah]
