470 New Students Enthusiastically Explore Library Services, Ready to Embrace Campus Literacy Culture

Yogyakarta, Indonesia – A total of 470 new students from various study programs at Universitas Nahdlatul Ulama Yogyakarta (UNU Jogja) participated in the UNU Jogja Library's User Education program on Thursday, October 29. The program marked an initial step in introducing students to the library's systems, facilities, and services so they can make optimal use of these resources to support their academic activities.

Head of the UNU Jogja Library Technical Implementation Unit (UPT), Abdulloh Badruzzaman, S.T., M.T., explained that the library provides a wide range of literacy resources, including both printed and digital collections, which students can access and utilize. Through this program, students are expected to become more familiar with the available knowledge resources and learn how to access them to support their learning process.

“We hope students will not see the library merely as a place to read and borrow books. More importantly, they should be able to make optimal use of all library facilities and services to meet their academic needs,” he said.

The benefits of the program were also experienced firsthand by Ilham Alaziz, a student in the Pharmacy Study Program. He expressed his enthusiasm for the activity, saying that it had provided him with new insights into the services and facilities available at the UNU Jogja Library.

“I was really happy to take part in this User Education program. I learned so many new things about the UNU Jogja Library. Now I know how to search for books and the reference materials I need. Getting a book as a prize made the experience even more enjoyable,” he said.

A similar experience was shared by Tata Alisya Nindy Nor Pratiwi, also a Pharmacy student. She said the program was particularly helpful in finding references to support her laboratory report assignments.

“It was really fun and very useful. I often have to write laboratory reports, so this activity helped me learn how to find the right books and references in the library. Now, whenever I need references, I know where to look,” she explained.

Riska Anwar, a student in the Primary School Teacher Education Study Program (PGSD), shared a similar view. After participating in the program, she gained a better understanding of the various library facilities available to support her university studies.

“After attending User Education, I realized that the UNU Jogja Library actually has such complete and adequate facilities. I also learned how to search for books and reference materials to support my studies,” she said.

UNU Jogja Librarian Nur Istiana, S.I.P., explained that User Education is an annual program organized as an initial step toward building closer connections between students and the library while fostering a culture of literacy across the campus.

“We hope this User Education program will encourage students to develop a closer relationship with the library, strengthen the campus literacy culture, and make the library one of their primary learning resources throughout their studies at UNU Jogja,” she said. []
