Yogyakarta, Indonesia — The Faculty of Halal Industry at Universitas Nahdlatul Ulama Yogyakarta (UNU Jogja) held a Workshop on the Review of VMTS, Strategic Plan, Operational Plan, and Curriculum Redesign as a strategic step to strengthen academic quality and align the curriculum with industry and workforce needs on Friday, May 22.
The workshop brought together academics, industry practitioners, alumni, graduate users, and industry partners to provide input for the development of study programs within the Faculty of Halal Industry. The activity also formed part of efforts to strengthen accreditation documents based on Outcome Based Education (OBE) and the Internal Quality Assurance System (SPMI).
During the workshop, participants reviewed the faculty and study programs’ VMTS (Vision, Mission, Goals, and Targets), Strategic Plan (Renstra), and Operational Plan (Renop) to ensure that academic development remains relevant to the evolving halal industry landscape.
Highlighting the faculty’s VMTS, Strategic Plan, and Operational Plan, Prof. Dr. apt. Nina Salamah, M.Sc. stated that the development of the Faculty of Halal Industry should remain rooted in Nahdlatul Ulama values while also responding to global challenges and opportunities.
“The Faculty of Halal Industry must maintain the distinctive values of NU while also growing at both national and global levels,” she said.
Meanwhile, discussing the Pharmacy Department, Prof. Dr. apt. Yandi Syukri, M.Si. emphasized that the Pharmacy curriculum must be adaptive to current developments and capable of addressing challenges in today’s pharmaceutical sector.
According to him, the curriculum should be aligned with industry and workforce demands so that graduates possess relevant competencies and distinct advantages compared to pharmacy graduates from other universities.
“Pharmacy education must be able to solve real problems in the pharmaceutical field. Therefore, the curriculum needs to be designed according to industry and workforce needs,” he explained.
In addition to the review sessions, the workshop also continued with a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) on curriculum redesign for the Pharmacy, Agricultural Product Technology (THP), and Agribusiness study programs. The discussions involved external stakeholders such as academics, professional organizations, industries, alumni, and graduate users to provide evaluations and recommendations for the proposed curriculum.
This activity reflects UNU Jogja’s commitment to continuously improving learning quality, strengthening academic governance, and promoting higher education that is excellent, adaptive, and relevant to the needs of society and industry. Through these continuous efforts, UNU Jogja aims to produce professional, competitive graduates capable of competing at both national and global levels. [Latifah]
