ALUMNI – Saputri Ulandari, an alumna of the Pharmacy Study Program at Universitas Nahdlatul Ulama Yogyakarta (UNU Jogja), has successfully developed a professional career in the medical device sector. She currently works as a Medical Device Responsible Officer (PJT Alkes) at PT Amanah Jaya Bersama, a medical device distribution company located in Batam.
Saputri’s career is one example of how UNU Jogja Pharmacy graduates are able to adapt and thrive in the professional world. In addition to being responsible for ensuring that medical devices are managed in accordance with regulations, her job has also provided opportunities to participate in various activities and business trips abroad.
“A fun fact about my job is that I can travel abroad to Bangkok, Thailand, and Singapore, with all expenses covered by the company where I work,” said Saputri.
According to her, her experience while studying at UNU Jogja not only provided academic knowledge but also developed leadership, communication, and teamwork skills that are highly needed in the workplace.
During her time as a student, Saputri was known for being active in various student organizations. She was entrusted to serve as the Commander of the Indonesian Red Cross Student Volunteer Corps (KSR PMI) at UNU Jogja. In addition, she also held the position of Chief Editor of the UNU Jogja Student Press Organization (LPM).
“While studying at UNU Jogja, I really enjoyed being involved in organizations. In addition to serving as the Commander of KSR PMI UNU Jogja and Chief Editor of LPM UNU Jogja, I was also active as a member of the Pharmacy Student Association and various other organizations,” she said.
These organizational experiences became valuable assets that helped her adapt to a professional work environment. The ability to manage teams, build communication, lead organizations, and face various challenges gained through organizational activities has now become important in carrying out her responsibilities as a Medical Device Responsible Officer.
Saputri’s story shows that organizational experience during college can be a significant added value in building a career. In addition to expanding networks and experiences, organizations also provide a space to develop leadership skills, communication abilities, and problem-solving capabilities.
University Support in Preparing Pharmacy Graduates for Employment
As a university in Yogyakarta that is oriented toward global competitiveness, UNU Jogja continues to encourage students to be prepared for the workforce from the beginning of their studies. Through various competency development programs, students are equipped not only with academic knowledge but also with practical experiences relevant to industry needs.
One of the programs offered is practice-based entrepreneurship learning through the General Course of Financial Literacy and Entrepreneurship (MKDU LKK). Through this program, students gain direct experience in managing businesses and understanding real-world business dynamics.
In addition, students have opportunities to participate in industrial internships and social laboratory programs designed to strengthen professional experience before graduation. The university also provides support through foreign language training, mentoring for participation in national and international competitions, job interview preparation, and entrepreneurship development.
In the classroom, students are encouraged to think critically, confidently express ideas and opinions, and communicate them to the public. This preparation is part of the university’s effort to produce graduates who are not only academically competent but also mentally prepared to compete in national and global workplaces.
Saputri’s career journey is one proof that the combination of academic competence, organizational experience, and readiness to face challenges can open various career opportunities for UNU Jogja graduates. [Latifah]
