From the Struggles of Living Away from Home to Becoming Head of CSSD at Awal Bros Hospital Botania Batam

ALUMNI – The life journey of Apt. Novindi Mega Liani, S.Farm., is proof that hard work, parents’ prayers, and perseverance can help someone overcome limitations. Behind her achievement as Head of the Central Sterile Supply Department (CSSD) at Awal Bros Hospital, Botania Batam lies a long story of struggle, sacrifice, and determination as a young woman pursuing her dreams far from home.

The decision to leave her hometown became the first major step in realizing her dream of becoming a pharmacist. Carrying her family’s hopes and a strong desire to change her future, Novindi began her undergraduate studies in Pharmacy while facing the challenges of living independently.

“Living away from home taught me how to survive and keep fighting. Being far from family was not easy, but I believed every process would eventually lead me to something better,” Novindi shared.

Her years in university were filled with challenges. Besides adapting to a new environment and facing demanding academic responsibilities, she also had to endure difficult family circumstances. When her father became ill, her mother became the strongest source of support in her life.

Novindi witnessed firsthand how her mother continued to struggle tirelessly to ensure her education could continue. Despite financial and emotional hardships, her mother kept working hard, sacrificing many things for the family’s future.

“From my mother, I learned that dreams must be pursued with perseverance. Her sacrifices became my greatest motivation to keep going,” she said.

After successfully completing her Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy, Novindi continued her professional pharmacist education with even greater determination. The pharmacist professional program became an important stage in shaping her into a competent healthcare professional.

During her professional training, she faced new responsibilities, including clinical practice in healthcare facilities and direct involvement in healthcare services. These experiences strengthened both her competence and maturity in the professional world.

Her long journey eventually led her to join Awal Bros Hospital as Head of the Central Sterile Supply Department (CSSD). The position plays a crucial role in ensuring that all medical equipment used in healthcare procedures is sterile and safe for patients.

As a pharmacist, Novindi possesses expertise in quality management, contamination control, medical device safety, and sterilization principles. Her pharmaceutical knowledge in microbiology, chemicals, product stability, and risk management has become an essential part of supporting hospital sterilization systems.

According to Novindi, a proper sterilization system significantly impacts patient safety and healthcare service quality.

“Sterilization is not only about keeping equipment clean, but also about how hospitals maintain patient safety comprehensively. That is why every process must be carried out carefully and according to standards,” she explained.

In addition to leading the CSSD unit, Novindi was also entrusted to serve as Chair of the Committee for Other Healthcare Professionals at Awal Bros Hospital. The responsibility reflects recognition of her dedication, commitment, and contribution to the healthcare sector.

For Novindi, every achievement she has reached today is far from instant success. Behind it all are sacrifices, tears, long processes, and the prayers of her parents that continuously accompanied her journey.

She hopes her story can inspire many young people, especially those who are striving to pursue education and dreams despite limitations.
