UNU Jogja Faculty of Education Lecturers and Students Win Four Awards at International Conference

Yogyakarta, Indonesia - Lecturers and students of the Faculty of Education at Universitas Nahdlatul Ulama Yogyakarta (UNU Jogja) won four awards at an international conference titled “Empowering Islamic Studies and Education: The Intersection of Law, Economics, and AI Technology in the Digital Era,” organized by the Institute Agama Islam K.H. Sufyan Tsauri Majenang (Insima) Cilacap on Monday, September 7.

The four awards comprised Best Presenter, Best Topic, and Best Research, recognizing scholarly works in several fields, including education, character development, literacy, and communication.

The Best Presenter award was won by Annuril Baihaqi Achmadi and Khusnul Harsul Lisan, M.Hum. In their paper titled “Developing a Mobile-based E-Learning Module Using Google Antigravity for English Communication Skills for Paket C Students at PKBM Tunas Mandiri,” they developed an e-learning module called Mandiri Tunas English Learning (MANTUL), a mobile-based e-learning module using Google Antigravity to improve the English communication skills of Paket C students at PKBM Tunas Mandiri.

Meanwhile, the Best Topic award was presented to Harisna Hikmah, M.Pd., for her paper titled “Speaking Critically, Communicating Ethically: Development and Validation of an Islamic Values-Based Needs Analysis Instrument.” In the study, she developed a Needs Analysis Instrument for Critical Speaking based on the Qaul Framework.

The Best Research award was also presented to Nofita Nur Safitri for her study titled “Internalization of Environmental Care Characters in Children from Marginal Villages through Community-Based Education.” In her research, Nofita examined waste-related issues and environmental vulnerability in riverside communities through an educational approach closely connected to children's daily lives. Environmental education was carried out through gardening, waste management, community service, habituation activities, and role modeling by volunteers to help develop ecological awareness and character among the children.

Another Best Research award was won by As Shifa Al Qolbi for her paper titled “Humanistic Educational Values for Elementary School-Age Children in the Novel Guru Aini by Andrea Hirata.” In the study, Shifa examined humanistic educational values in the novel that are relevant to the education of elementary school-age children. She found that these values can help children develop a positive self-concept, foster concern for others, maximize their potential, and grow in an environment that provides a sense of safety and acceptance.

Dekan Fakultas Ilmu Pendidikan UNU Jogja, Dr. Mustaghfiroh Rahayu, appreciated the achievement. She said the accomplishment reflects the strengthening of research literacy and academic writing skills among UNU Jogja lecturers and students, while also providing opportunities for them to compete in academic forums across universities.

“This achievement shows that the research literacy and academic writing skills of our lecturers and students continue to develop. This is in line with UNU Jogja’s vision and mission to encourage its academic community to compete at both the national and global levels,” she said.
