Yogyakarta, Indonesia – Student social media administrators from the study programs under the Faculty of Halal Industry (FIH) at Universitas Nahdlatul Ulama Yogyakarta (UNU Jogja) participated in a social media management training program titled "Orchestrating Study Program Communication in the Gen Z Era" on Friday, July 17. The training equipped participants with digital communication strategies, content planning, and social media management skills to help academic information reach wider audiences, particularly younger generations.
The program featured the UNU Jogja Social Media Management Team as speakers and was attended by students responsible for managing the faculty's and study programs' social media accounts. In addition to aligning digital communication strategies across FIH, the training also provided students with practical skills relevant to today's creative industry and digital communication landscape.
The initiative reflects UNU Jogja's commitment to strengthening its digital communication strategy, following the university's achievement of First Runner-Up in the Social Media Management Category at the 2026 Higher Education, Science, and Technology Public Relations Awards (Diktisaintek Awards) organized by the Regional Higher Education Service Institution (LLDIKTI) Region V Yogyakarta.
apt. Listiana Hidayati, S.Si., M.Sc., Dean of the Faculty of Halal Industry at UNU Jogja, said that social media management at the study program level has become an essential component of public communication and the dissemination of academic information.
"Through this training, we aim to continuously enhance the quality of content, communication strategies, and social media governance across all study programs within the Faculty of Halal Industry. Our goal is to make them more professional, creative, and impactful. Social media serves as a vital bridge for building effective communication with younger generations, particularly Generation Z, while expanding public access to information about our academic activities, research, innovation, and community engagement initiatives," she said.
Listiana further explained that, as a faculty dedicated to advancing the halal industry ecosystem, the Faculty of Halal Industry has a responsibility to provide educational, credible, and research-based information that enhances public literacy on halal issues from multiple perspectives, including science, technology, business, and sustainable industrial development.
"In this context, social media is not merely a promotional platform. It also serves as a channel for disseminating knowledge and strengthening the role of higher education institutions in addressing the challenges and opportunities of the halal industry at both the national and global levels," she concluded.
Meanwhile, Intan Agisti Nila Sari, Director of Communications at UNU Jogja, welcomed the Faculty of Halal Industry's initiative to strengthen the capabilities of social media administrators across the faculty and its study programs.
"We highly appreciate the Faculty of Halal Industry's collaborative spirit. Managing study program communication in the Gen Z era requires us to remain relevant, creative, and adaptive. By equipping social media administrators with effective communication strategies—from content planning to consistent account management—we can work together to build a strong institutional reputation," Intan said.
Students Learn Strategic Social Media Management
The training consisted of two sessions combining communication strategy with practical social media management.
During the first session, Intan Agisti Nila Sari introduced participants to the importance of developing clear key messages, identifying target audiences, and building a strong digital identity for each study program while maintaining alignment with the university's overall brand.
The second session was led by Lugas Ikhtiar, Social Media Specialist, who emphasized that effective social media management extends far beyond simply publishing content. Participants were introduced to a comprehensive content development workflow, including defining communication objectives, identifying target audiences, generating audience-driven content ideas, developing editorial plans, and evaluating content performance after publication.
Students also learned copywriting techniques using the Hook–Context–Value–Call to Action (CTA) framework. This approach guided participants in creating compelling openings, providing relevant context, delivering valuable information, and encouraging audiences to take meaningful action.
Beyond copywriting, the training explored effective visual content design. Lugas explained the importance of organizing visual elements systematically—from attention-grabbing headlines and key messages to supporting information and clear calls to action—to ensure content is engaging and easily understood across different social media platforms.
Through this initiative, the Faculty of Halal Industry hopes each study program will be able to manage its social media platforms more strategically, consistently, and professionally, enabling academic activities, research, and community engagement programs to reach broader audiences.
As a university in Yogyakarta committed to advancing digital communication, UNU Jogja continues to foster adaptive communication strategies through collaboration across its academic and administrative units. These efforts are expected to strengthen the university's institutional reputation while expanding public access to knowledge through digital media. [Latifah]
