Informatics Studio 3.0 Showcases Digital Innovations and Internship Projects by UNU Jogja Informatics Students

Yogyakarta, Indonesia – The Informatics Study Program of the Faculty of Information Technology at Universitas Nahdlatul Ulama Yogyakarta (UNU Jogja), through the Informatics Student Association, once again organized Informatics Studio 3.0, providing a platform for students to showcase digital innovations developed throughout their academic journey. Held at the Amphitheater on the second floor of UNU Jogja on Tuesday, July 28, the event featured dozens of projects created by students from the 2023, 2024, and 2025 cohorts, ranging from course-based projects to industry internship outcomes.
Informatics Studio 3.0 reflects the implementation of project-based learning adopted by the Informatics Study Program. Through this event, students not only presented their work to lecturers and visitors but also received valuable feedback to further refine their innovations, making them more applicable to real-world community needs and industry challenges.
Head of the Informatics Study Program at UNU Jogja, Yana Hendriana, stated that Informatics Studio 3.0 has become an annual event organized by the Informatics Student Association as a platform for disseminating students' learning outcomes while recognizing their creativity and competencies.
"Informatics Studio 3.0 is more than just an exhibition of student projects. More importantly, it provides students with the opportunity to disseminate innovations they have developed through various courses and projects. It also serves as an appreciation of their efforts, encouraging them to become more confident in developing their competencies," he said.
According to Yana, every project showcased represents a learning process in which students identify real-world problems, design solutions, and implement technologies tailored to users' needs.
He emphasized that the Informatics Study Program is committed not only to producing technological products but also to ensuring that every innovation delivers meaningful benefits to society.
"We do not focus solely on the final product. Going forward, we hope more student innovations can be implemented in communities and create tangible social impact," he added.
Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration Delivers Innovative Solutions for Communities
Yana further explained that many student innovations have been developed through collaboration with the Computer Engineering and Electrical Engineering Study Programs and implemented in partnership with villages and local communities. These collaborations allow students to evaluate the effectiveness of their technologies while making meaningful contributions to solving real societal challenges.
He noted that community partners have responded positively to the students' innovations, with several expressing interest in continuing future collaborations to further develop solutions that meet local needs.
"Students are encouraged to contribute their knowledge to society through the innovations they create. When these technologies are truly utilized and benefit communities, the learning process becomes far more meaningful," he explained.
One notable project is an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based smart farming system developed for Lintang Songo Islamic Boarding School in Bantul. The technology is designed to improve agricultural management through digital solutions.
Students also developed an Internet of Things (IoT)-based irrigation system powered by solar energy for the Gama Umami livestock feed garden in Giripurwo Village, Gunungkidul. The project is part of the Kosabangsa Program, which aims to strengthen sustainable community economic independence through appropriate technology.
Another innovation involves the development of a field well system integrated with an IoT-based smart irrigation solution in Pagergunung Hamlet, Sitimulyo Village, Piyungan District, Bantul. Funded through the “Pemberdayaan Kemitraan Masyarakat-Pemberdayaan Desa Binaan” (PKM-PDB) grant from Indonesia's Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, the project addresses water shortages experienced by local farmers during the dry season. Powered by solar energy, the system automates irrigation, enabling more efficient water use and improving agricultural productivity.
Industry Internships Prepare Students for the Professional World
In addition to showcasing digital innovations, Informatics Studio 3.0 also served as a platform for students to present the outcomes of their internships at technology companies and various institutions. During these presentations, students shared their contributions to software development, digital system implementation, and technical problem-solving based on industry standards.
Through these presentations, students not only reflected on their internship experiences but also introduced participants to professional workplace culture, collaborative development practices, and the skills required to adapt to the rapidly evolving digital industry. These real-world experiences are expected to inspire fellow students as they prepare for their future careers.
To recognize students' creativity, innovation, and project quality, the organizing committee presented awards to the best projects exhibited during Informatics Studio 3.0. The awards are expected to motivate students to continue developing innovations that are not only technically excellent but also capable of addressing real challenges faced by society and industry.
As a university in Yogyakarta committed to developing digital talent, UNU Jogja hopes Informatics Studio 3.0 will continue strengthening the culture of research, collaboration, project-based learning, and partnerships with industry.
