SII Department of UNU Yogyakarta Undergoes Field Assessment, Strengthening Academic Quality Rooted in Islamic Values

Yogyakarta, Indonesia – The Interdisciplinary Islamic Studies Program (SII Department) at Universitas Nahdlatul Ulama Yogyakarta (UNU Jogja) underwent a Field Assessment over three days, Monday–Wednesday, February 9–11, 2026. The activity is part of the accreditation process aimed at evaluating academic quality, study program governance, and the institution’s commitment to continuous improvement in higher education.

The Field Assessment marked an important moment for the SII Program to demonstrate its academic readiness, curriculum strength, faculty quality, and scholarly contributions relevant to the development of contemporary interdisciplinary Islamic studies.

Acting Rector of UNU Jogja, Dr. KH. Fahmy Akbar Idries, S.E., M.M., stated that the assessment process is not merely an administrative evaluation, but also a collective effort to build a strong culture of quality within the university.

“This Field Assessment serves as a space for reflection as well as a reinforcement of our commitment to delivering higher education that is excellent, adaptive, and firmly rooted in the values of Ahlussunnah wal Jamaah,” he said.

Meanwhile, Assessor 1, Prof. Dr. Abdul Rohman, M.Ag, noted that UNU Jogja holds a strategic position as a university under the auspices of PBNU, attracting significant attention and expectations from various stakeholders.

“As a university within the PBNU environment, UNU Jogja is widely observed and often used as a reference model by other institutions. Therefore, strengthening academic quality and governance is crucial,” he explained.

In line with this, Assessor 2, Prof. Dr. Miftah Arifin, M.Ag, emphasized that the interdisciplinary approach in Islamic studies is a distinctive strength that should continue to be developed.

“Islamic studies today cannot stand alone. They must engage in dialogue with the social sciences, humanities, and even science and technology. The interdisciplinary approach developed by the SII Program at UNU Jogja is already on the right track,” he remarked.

During the assessment process, the assessors verified documents and conducted interviews with university leaders, lecturers, students, administrative staff, and institutional partners. The team also reviewed learning facilities and supporting infrastructure on campus.

This activity is expected not only to result in optimal accreditation outcomes but also to serve as a foundation for the SII Program at UNU Jogja to continuously enhance the quality of the tridharma of higher education and strengthen its role in developing Islamic studies that respond to global societal needs.
