UNU Jogja Canteen Advances Toward KHAS Zone Certification, Health Office Conducts On-Site Inspection

Yogyakarta, Indonesia – Nahdlatul Ulama University Yogyakarta (UNU Jogja) welcomed an inspection team from the Sleman and Bantul District Health Offices for an Environmental Health Inspection at the university canteen on Wednesday, July 22. The inspection is part of the university's application process for the Halal, Safe, and Healthy Culinary Zone (Zona KHAS) certification, aimed at improving the quality of food services on campus.

The inspection covered various aspects of environmental health within the canteen, including sanitation conditions, facility cleanliness, food handling practices, and supporting infrastructure. The assessment was conducted to ensure that the canteen meets the environmental health requirements as one of the key stages in obtaining Zona KHAS certification.

Head of the Halal Center at UNU Jogja, Dr. Fahmaninda Listiyani, B.Ecs. (Hons.), M.P.E., said that the Zona KHAS application reflects the university's commitment to providing food services that are not only halal but also safe and healthy for the academic community.

"Applying for Zona KHAS is part of UNU Jogja's commitment to providing food services that are not only halal but also safe and healthy. Through this process, we hope to further improve the quality of canteen management, ensuring a safer and more comfortable dining environment for the entire university community," she said.

According to Fahmaninda, the Zona KHAS concept goes beyond halal certification by emphasizing environmental cleanliness, food safety, and canteen management that complies with public health standards. Therefore, the Environmental Health Inspection conducted by the Health Offices is an essential step in fulfilling the certification requirements.

The on-site inspection was carried out by the Health Office assessment team, Oktavianto Bangunjaya and Tri Lisani. During the visit, the inspectors evaluated the canteen facilities while providing guidance and recommendations on environmental health standards that need to be fulfilled. The inspection results will serve as an important evaluation in the Zona KHAS application process.

Fahmaninda added that collaboration with the Sleman and Bantul District Health Offices is expected to strengthen the university's efforts to improve canteen management and provide better food services for students, lecturers, administrative staff, and campus visitors.
