Writing and Speaking Skills Help Moh. Aminollah Secure Russia Government Scholarship

Yogyakarta, Indonesia - The writing and speaking skills developed during his studies in the English Education Study Program (PBI) at Universitas Nahdlatul Ulama Yogyakarta (UNU Jogja) helped Moh. Aminollah secure the Russia Government Scholarship (RGS) to pursue postgraduate studies in Russia.

Through the scholarship program funded by the Russian Government, Aminollah will pursue a degree in Linguistics at National Research Tomsk State University, one of the oldest universities in Siberia, Russia.

His journey to securing the scholarship was not a short one. After completing his four-year undergraduate studies at UNU Jogja, Aminollah prepared for a series of selection processes. As part of his preparation, he took Russian language classes for one year.

During the selection process, Aminollah went through three main stages. The first stage was document screening. In the second stage, he took an academic subject test as part of the selection process for the Russia Government Scholarship and Open Doors.

The third stage consisted of interviews with representatives of his prospective university, the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Jakarta, and the Russia Government Scholarship program. At this stage, his ability to communicate in English became an important asset.

According to Aminollah, the writing and speaking skills he developed during his studies at PBI UNU Jogja were particularly helpful throughout the selection process. His writing skills were especially useful in preparing his motivation letter, while his speaking skills helped him during the interview stage.

“I think there are two skills that stood out as important factors in helping me pass this scholarship selection: writing and speaking. My writing skills were particularly useful when preparing my motivation letter in the first selection stage, while my speaking skills were important during the interview in the third stage. All of the selection stages had to be conducted in English,” he said.

Alongside his studies, Aminollah was active in the English Education Study Program Student Association. He also gained teaching experience as an English teacher at SDIT Ar-Rayyan Darul Qur'an.

These academic and professional experiences have become part of the foundation he will bring with him as he continues his studies in Russia. For Aminollah, studying in a different academic and cultural environment is not only about earning a degree but also about building relationships and gaining international experience.

“My goal is to build as many relationships, experiences, and connections as possible. Geographically and culturally, Russia is very different from Indonesia. Russia is also the largest country in the world, with a culture that is different from Indonesia,” he said.

Head of the English Education Study Program at UNU Jogja, Khusnul Harsul Lisan, M.Hum., expressed his appreciation for the achievement. He said Aminollah’s success in securing the Russia Government Scholarship demonstrates how English language competencies developed during his studies at PBI UNU Jogja can serve as a foundation for pursuing academic opportunities at the international level.

“Aminollah’s achievement shows that the English language skills acquired during his studies can serve as valuable capital for pursuing education at the international level. We hope this achievement will inspire other PBI students to continue developing their competencies and to pursue academic opportunities at the global level,” he said.
