Yogyakarta, Indonesia – Two students from Universitas Nahdlatul Ulama Yogyakarta (UNU Jogja), Mucahyani Fajrin Maulina from the Pharmacy Study Program and Andrean Signa Adriano from the Informatics Study Program, won a Silver Medal at the national-level IDEA FEST 5 competition organized by Sentosa Foundation in collaboration with the Bogor Science Club (BSC) of IPB University.
The competition, themed “Ideas and Creativity of the Young Generation in Realizing Golden Indonesia 2045,” brought together high school and university students from across Indonesia to present innovative solutions in various fields.
In the competition, the UNU Jogja team competed in the health category by introducing BIJAK (Smart Drug Scan & Community Pharmacovigilance Platform), a digital platform focused on medication safety and public awareness.
The idea was inspired by the continuing challenges of medication poisoning cases, limited public access to understandable drug safety information, and the low rate of adverse drug reaction reporting.
Through BIJAK, users can access a range of integrated services, including health education, medication scanning, adverse effect reporting, drug safety alerts, and pharmaceutical consultation.
Mucahyani Fajrin Maulina explained that the innovation was developed to help people obtain reliable and accessible medication information through digital technology.
“We found that many people still struggle to access simple and understandable information about medication safety. Through BIJAK, we aim to improve health literacy while making adverse drug reaction reporting more accessible and practical,” she said.
According to her, BIJAK also demonstrates the value of interdisciplinary collaboration between pharmacy and information technology in addressing public health challenges.
Meanwhile, Andrean Signa Adriano highlighted the role of digital technology in expanding access to medication information and strengthening drug safety monitoring systems for the wider community.
The Silver Medal achievement reflects the ability of UNU Jogja students to develop innovative solutions that address real societal needs while contributing to the advancement of digital health literacy.
The competition also provided a platform for students to strengthen their creativity, research skills, and collaborative abilities in developing solutions to support Indonesia’s vision of becoming a developed nation by 2045. [Latifah]
