Yogyakarta, Indonesia – A student from the Primary School Teacher Education Program (PGSD) of Universitas Nahdlatul Ulama Yogyakarta (UNU Jogja) has achieved an accomplishment in a regional Islamic preaching competition. The event was organized as a Da’i Competition by Universitas Teknologi Yogyakarta and involved university students from across the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY), Saturday, March 7.
In the competition, Doni Ramadhani, a 2023 PGSD student, delivered a sermon on the special virtues of the month of Ramadan. The topic was chosen because it is considered highly relevant to the holy month, a significant time for Muslims to strengthen their worship and improve themselves.
Doni explained that Ramadan is not merely about abstaining from food and drink, but also a moment for Muslims to strengthen faith, increase good deeds, and enhance social awareness toward others.
“Ramadan is a blessed month that provides an opportunity for Muslims to improve themselves, increase acts of worship, and develop greater concern for others,” he said while presenting his sermon during the competition.
Head of the PGSD Department, Murdianto, stated that Doni’s participation reflects the commitment of the PGSD department at Universitas Nahdlatul Ulama Yogyakarta in instilling Islamic values in students. He emphasized that PGSD students are encouraged not only to excel academically but also to become agents of da’wah who bring positive messages to society.
“In our learning practices, we always encourage students to develop communication and public speaking skills, while also strengthening their religious understanding so they can deliver inspiring messages to the wider community,” he said.
The participation of UNU Jogja students in the da’i competition represents one form of the university’s ongoing effort to promote Islamic values. As a campus in Yogyakarta that upholds the principles of Ahlussunnah wal Jamaah, the university continues to encourage students to spread moderate, educational, and relevant religious messages to younger generations.
