UNU Jogja Management Students Donate Four Sacrificial Goats to Communities in Bantul, Sleman, and Klaten

Yogyakarta, Indonesia – Management students from the 2024 cohort at Universitas Nahdlatul Ulama Yogyakarta (UNU Jogja) distributed four sacrificial goats to communities in Bantul, Sleman, and Klaten in celebration of Eid al-Adha 1447 H.

The initiative was part of the implementation of the Business Communication course and was designed as a social service and community engagement program. Through this activity, students not only learned theories in the classroom but also applied communication, collaboration, and event management skills directly within the community.

Budi Sutiono, lecturer of the Business Communication course, explained that the program aimed to instill values of social responsibility, solidarity, and generosity among students.

“Through this program, students learn how to build communication and cooperation with various stakeholders while developing a sense of social responsibility toward the community,” he said, Wednesday, May 27.

Budi further explained that the initiative reflects the implementation of the university’s Outcome-Based Education (OBE) curriculum, in which learning projects are designed to produce measurable outcomes while creating a tangible impact on society. The activity also contributes to students’ involvement in supporting the Three Pillars of Higher Education (Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi), particularly in the area of community service.

As part of the project, students organized a fundraising campaign with support from donors and community partners. The funds collected were used to procure four sacrificial goats, which were then distributed to communities in need.

The sacrificial animals were delivered to several locations, including Ngabean Kuno Islamic Boarding School in Demak Ijo. Additional distributions were made to residents and Islamic boarding school students in Bantul, Sleman, and Klaten, the target areas of the community service program.

Students were actively involved throughout the entire process, from fundraising and coordinating with beneficiaries to distributing the animals. This hands-on participation provided valuable experience in practicing humanitarian values, leadership, and teamwork.

Ulil, the student coordinator of the program, said that the sacrifice initiative served as a tangible expression of students’ concern for society while also providing meaningful learning opportunities beyond the classroom.

“This activity taught us about teamwork, responsibility, and the importance of sharing with others. From fundraising to distributing the sacrificial animals, we worked with many stakeholders, which helped us develop communication skills and gain experience in managing a social program directly. We hope this assistance will benefit the community and become a source of blessings for everyone involved,” Ulil said.

Similarly, Fawwaz Akmal Muhammad, one of the students involved in the program, stated that direct engagement with the community gave students a deeper understanding of service and social responsibility.

“This program has been an invaluable experience for us. We not only learned how to manage an activity but also gained a better understanding of community needs firsthand. We hope similar initiatives can continue in the future and create even greater benefits for society,” Fawwaz said.
