Through Field Study, UNU Jogja Equips UIN Sunan Kalijaga Graduate Students with Academic and Institutional Experience

Yogyakarta, Indonesia – The Faculty of Islamic Studies at Universitas Nahdlatul Ulama Yogyakarta (UNU Jogja) has officially concluded and returned four graduate students from the Master’s Programs in Arabic Language Education (PBA) and Islamic Education Management (MPI), Faculty of Education and Teacher Training (FITK), UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, following the successful completion of their field study program. The closing ceremony was held virtually via Zoom on Monday, June 8.
The field study program is part of an academic collaboration between UNU Jogja and UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, aimed at broadening students’ learning experiences through direct engagement with the academic and institutional environment of a partner university.
The participating students were Nafissatul Jamila, Aniqah Laili Abidah, Mutia Oktavianti, and Syariful Huda.
During their field study at UNU Jogja, the students participated in various academic activities, including experience-sharing sessions, scholarly discussions, scientific journal management, and collaborative article writing (co-authorship) with faculty members. The experience was designed to enrich their perspectives on Arabic language education and Islamic education management while strengthening practical skills relevant to both academic and professional settings.
Mohammad Rofiqi, M.Hum., a lecturer in the Interdisciplinary Islamic Studies Program at UNU Jogja and coordinator of the program, expressed his appreciation for the students’ active participation throughout the field study.
According to him, the presence of students from UIN Sunan Kalijaga brought fresh perspectives to UNU Jogja’s academic environment and demonstrated the importance of collaboration among Islamic higher education institutions.
“Programs like this create opportunities for exchanging experiences, ideas, and best practices that benefit both institutions. We are very open to expanding future academic collaborations in education, research, and community engagement,” he said.
Meanwhile, Dr. Nasiruddin, M.S.I., M.Pd., Secretary of the Master’s Program in Arabic Language Education at FITK UIN Sunan Kalijaga, expressed his gratitude for the support and cooperation provided by UNU Jogja throughout the program.
He emphasized that the field study was not merely an academic requirement but also a valuable platform for strengthening institutional relations and creating opportunities for broader collaboration in the future.
“We hope the experience gained by our students at UNU Jogja will become a valuable asset in developing their competencies. We also hope this collaboration will continue and lead to more innovative academic programs in the future,” he stated.
The completion of the program marked the successful conclusion of a productive field study experience. It also reflected the commitment of both institutions to providing holistic learning opportunities by integrating academic theory with practical experience through inter-university collaboration.
Through continued partnership and academic synergy, UNU Jogja and UIN Sunan Kalijaga hope to contribute to the advancement of Islamic education that is more adaptive, competitive, and relevant to the challenges of an increasingly globalized world. [Latifah]
