Getting to Know SIPINBAR: A Digital Solution by UNU Jogja Informatics Students to Simplify Village Asset Borrowing

Yogyakarta, Indonesia – In many villages, the process of borrowing public inventory is still managed manually using record books. This conventional approach often leads to various challenges, including difficulties in tracking data, scheduling conflicts, and time-consuming reporting processes. Responding to these issues, students from the Informatics Study Program, Faculty of Information Technology, Universitas Nahdlatul Ulama Yogyakarta (UNU Jogja), developed SIPINBAR (Village Asset Borrowing Information System), a digital platform designed to simplify the administration of village asset borrowing.

SIPINBAR was developed as the final project for the Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) course through a project-based learning approach. The application reflects the university's commitment to encouraging students to create technological solutions that address real-world community needs.

The system was developed by six Informatics students: Moh Nurul Lanjib, Muhammad Shohih Arrifa'i, Dimas Husain Rabbani, M. Syaiful Anwar, Muhamad Luthfi Hakim, and Ficky Eko Santoso.

As a web-based platform, SIPINBAR digitalizes the entire village asset borrowing process within an integrated system. From submitting borrowing requests and obtaining approvals to monitoring usage and managing returns, every stage can be handled more systematically, reducing administrative errors while improving efficiency.

Through the platform, village officials can centrally manage inventory data, verify borrowing requests, monitor asset availability, and automatically generate administrative reports. Meanwhile, community members can submit borrowing requests online, track the status of their applications in real time, and receive service notifications without going through lengthy administrative procedures.

SIPINBAR also offers several supporting features to improve service quality. These include real-time inventory availability to prevent double bookings, automatic late-return penalty calculations, return reminder notifications, and borrowing history reports that assist village administrators in making data-driven decisions.

From a technological perspective, the application was built using Python 3.12, the Flask 3.0 framework, SQLite 3 database, Flask-SQLAlchemy as the Object Relational Mapping (ORM), Flask-WTF for form validation, Jinja2 as the template engine, and Tailwind CSS to provide a responsive and user-friendly interface. As a web-based application, SIPINBAR can be accessed directly through a web browser without requiring additional software installation.

Beyond providing a digital solution, SIPINBAR also serves as an implementation of key Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) concepts, particularly encapsulation and inheritance. Applying these principles enables the system to have a modular architecture that is easier to maintain, expand, and aligns with modern software engineering practices.

Through the development of SIPINBAR, students not only strengthened their technical skills in software development but also learned to understand user needs and design solutions with tangible social impact. This innovation demonstrates how technology can enhance transparency, efficiency, and the quality of public services, particularly within village governance.

As a university in Yogyakarta committed to promoting project-based learning, UNU Yogyakarta continues to provide opportunities for students to develop innovations that respond to technological advancements and community needs. Through projects such as SIPINBAR, students are prepared not only to master theoretical knowledge but also to create impactful digital solutions that contribute to accelerating digital transformation across various sectors.
