Jakarta, Indonesia — The Nextar Symbiosis team from UNU Jogja, consisting of three Accounting students, Nazril Hasan, Nur Uzlyfatul Hadi, and Said Muhammad Razzaq successfully placed in the national Top 10 of the NexSolve IEEE UI Scientific Writing Competition held in Jakarta.
In this competition, the team presented a research project examining the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on the moral behavior of secondary school students. Their study is detailed in a paper titled “The Integration of Artificial Intelligence in Education and Its Impact on the Moral Development of Senior High School Students.”
“Our research came from a concern about how AI is being used by high school students. We found that many are not yet using this technology wisely. This can lead to declining critical thinking skills, increasing risks of academic dishonesty, and potential dependency on AI,” explained Nazril Hasan on Monday, November 17.
He further stated that the findings highlight the need for continuous awareness programs and supervision regarding AI usage among students to reduce the chances of academic misconduct. Such efforts are also considered effective in maintaining and even improving students’ critical thinking skills in the digital era.
He also recommended the importance of ethical guidance in utilizing AI. According to him, teachers and parents play a crucial role in shaping the moral character of students. “With proper guidance, AI can become a tool that enhances the quality of learning while upholding academic integrity,” he added.
Dean of the Faculty of Economics, Dr. Diah Wulandaru, expressed her appreciation for the students’ achievement. She emphasized that the ideas presented by the Nextar Symbiosis team reflect the concerns of the younger generation regarding the future of human resources.
“Their ideas are worth appreciating. Their concerns as young people represent a collective awareness of the negative impacts of AI in the future. As academics, we must ensure that technological progress supports moral advancement, not just technical development,” she stated.
She also stressed that such research is vital in encouraging more comprehensive digital literacy and policy development within educational settings. “The role of universities is to cultivate students who are not only academically excellent but also critical, ethical, and attentive to human issues. This achievement demonstrates that UNU Jogja students are ready to contribute meaningfully to education and society,” she concluded. [Latifah]
