Yogyakarta, Indonesia – The Library of Universitas Nahdlatul Ulama Yogyakarta (UNU Jogja), which recently earned an A accreditation, has become a reference for other higher education institutions seeking to strengthen their library management. As part of its preparation for library accreditation, the Library of Universitas Sains Al-Qur'an (UNSIQ) Wonosobo, Central Java, conducted a benchmarking visit to UNU Jogja on Tuesday, June 30.
The delegation was led by the Head of the UNSIQ Library, Dr. Bambang Sugiyanto, S.Pd.I., M.Si., M.M., accompanied by three librarians. They were welcomed by Dr. Abdul Ghofar, Vice Rector for Pesantren Education and Social Transformation, Abdulloh Badruzzaman, Head of the UNU Jogja Library, and the university's library team.
Dr. Abdul Ghofar emphasized that the visit reflected the spirit of collaboration among higher education institutions.
"Collaboration like this is part of our shared commitment to strengthening Indonesia's higher education ecosystem. We hope UNU Jogja's experience can be valuable for UNSIQ while also opening opportunities for broader institutional cooperation in the future," he said.
During the visit, both institutions exchanged experiences on the accreditation process and discussed various aspects of library management, including institutional governance, administrative systems, service development, collection management, official documentation, and supporting materials required to meet national accreditation standards.
Dr. Bambang Sugiyanto said that UNU Jogja's achievement had inspired UNSIQ to move forward with its own accreditation process.
"Visiting UNU Jogja has given us greater confidence that we can achieve accreditation as well. Our library has not yet been accredited, but we hope to follow in UNU Yogyakarta's footsteps and eventually earn an A accreditation too," he said.
According to him, the benchmarking visit provided not only practical insights but also a clearer understanding of the steps needed to build a well-managed library that meets national quality standards.
"UNU Jogja's experience serves as an important reference for developing a more systematic management system focused on improving service quality," he added.
Meanwhile, Head of the UNU Jogja Library Abdulloh Badruzzaman highlighted that university libraries today play a far broader role than simply providing book collections. They serve as learning resource centers that support education, research, and community engagement, making continuous improvement in line with national standards essential.
"Through this benchmarking visit, we hope to share best practices and strengthen collaboration among university libraries," he said.
He added that achieving an A accreditation is not the final destination but the beginning of an ongoing commitment to enhancing service quality, strengthening institutional governance, and promoting the exchange of best practices with other higher education institutions.
The visit reflects the growing collaboration among Indonesian universities to improve library services and quality assurance. By sharing knowledge and practical experience, both institutions hope to contribute to a more adaptive, innovative, and high-quality university library ecosystem that supports academic excellence and responds to the evolving needs of higher education.
