Realizing Safe and Friendly Educational Cooperation in Islamic Boarding Schools and Schools, UNU Jogja Meets Minister of Women's Empowerment

Jakarta, Indonesia - UNU Jogja is committed to creating an inclusive, safe, and friendly campus and educational system for all. Through the Center for GEDSI, PUSDEKA, and SATGAS PPKS, UNU Jogja has implemented programs focusing on education, research, capacity building, service provision, and multi-stakeholder collaboration. 

On Thursday, January 9, UNU Jogja represented by the Director of the Center for GEDSI, Wiwin Siti Aminah Rohmawati; the Director of PUSDEKA, Rindang Farihah; the Director of Labsos, Saeroni; and the Chair of the PPKS Task Force, Suharti met with Indonesia’s Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (KPPPA) and the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education to strengthen cooperation on promoting safe and inclusive education in both boarding and mainstream schools.

The KPPPA office visit was received directly by the KPPPA Minister, Hj. Arifah Fauzi; the Deputy for Special Protection of Children, Nahar; the Deputy for Women's Rights Protection, Ratna Susianawati; and the Minister's Special Staff, Prof. Hj. A. Majdah M. Zain. 

Minister Arifah Fauzi highly praised the program design of #AMANPesantren: “Aksi Mandiri” for Safe and Sexual Violence-Free Islamic Boarding Schools, which will be developed by UNU Jogja. "The ministry is seeking ways to address sexual violence in boarding schools. This seems like a perfect fit. Thank you to UNU Jogja for focusing on this issue,” she said. 

The meeting resulted in a cooperation agreement that will be formalized in a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to be signed by the Minister of KPPPA at UNU Jogja next month (February). The KPPPA is committed to collaborating with UNU Jogja to secure resources to ensure the program's success. Meanwhile, during the visit to the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, the Head of the Character Strengthening Center (PUSPEKA), Rusprita Putri Utami, and several staff members received the delegation. The meeting was a follow-up to the hearing with Deputy Minister Fajar Rizal Ul Haq, conducted by Vice Rector Suhadi and FTI Dean Syamsiro a few days ago. 

The meeting resulted in an agreement to prepare a memorandum of understanding and a cooperation agreement on developing educational materials to strengthen the character of students in early childhood education (PAUD), elementary school (SD), junior high school (SMP), and high school (SMA/K) within the Nahdlatul Ulama community. The agreement also includes plans for capacity building for facilitators and piloting the program in schools. [Latifah]
