Pekalongan, Indonesia — Students from the Interdisciplinary Islamic Studies (SII) Program at Universitas Nahdlatul Ulama (UNU) Yogyakarta once again achieved an outstanding accomplishment at the 6th Qur’anic Arts Festival (Festival Seni Qur’ani Jilid VI) for the Yogyakarta–Central Java region, held at UIN KH. Abdurrahman Wahid Pekalongan, Central Java.
This prestigious regional competition brought together hundreds of students, university participants, and santri (Islamic boarding school students) from across Central Java and Yogyakarta to showcase their talents in Qur’anic recitation and calligraphy. The festival featured several main categories, including Musabaqah Hifdzil Qur’an (MHQ), Musabaqah Tilawatil Qur’an (MTQ), Festival Banjari (Fesban), and Musabaqah Khattil Qur’an (MKQ), with a total prize pool of IDR 20 million.
In this intellectually and spiritually enriching event, Akhyar Sabqi won 3rd Place in the MTQ Male Category, while Hanif Indi Safrina earned 2nd Place in the Contemporary Calligraphy Category.
Both expressed gratitude for their achievements, emphasizing the importance of perseverance and intensive mentoring during preparation.
“Alhamdulillah, all the practice has paid off. I’m so happy to have been among such talented people. This victory isn’t just mine — it’s for all of us. Keep the spirit alive,” said Akhyar.
Akhyar and Hanif also extended appreciation to their lecturers, peers, and the JQH IAC UNU Jogja team, who provided continuous support throughout the training process. They noted that the university’s strong encouragement played a crucial role in their success.
The success of SII UNU Jogja students at the 6th Qur’anic Arts Festival reflects the university’s commitment to fostering an excellent, religious, and competitive academic culture. UNU Jogja continues to support students in developing their Qur’anic artistic talents, promoting a tradition of moderate Islamic scholarship, and strengthening its position as an inclusive, progressive university rooted in the values of Islam rahmatan lil alamin (Islam as a mercy for all creation).
Through this achievement, UNU Jogja hopes to further inspire students’ passion for competition, love for Qur’anic arts, and dedication to spreading goodness — motivating others to excel, bring pride to the university, and contribute positively to society. [Latifah]
