Yogyakarta, Indonesia – The pencak silat team of Nahdlatul Ulama University (UNU) Jogja once again achieved outstanding success on the national stage. In the prestigious UPY Cup V National Pencak Silat Championship, held on July 26–27, 2025, at the Auditorium of Building 1, Universitas PGRI Yogyakarta (UPY), all participating athletes proudly brought home medals.
The three outstanding athletes representing UNU Jogja were Dhany Dwi Saputra from the 2024 Electrical Engineering Program, who won a silver medal, and Astriani Naila Putri and Aginda Bela Aulia Zahra from the 2024 Primary School Teacher Education (PGSD) Program, who each earned bronze medals.
The UPY Cup V gathered the best silat fighters from universities and martial arts schools across Indonesia. The competition was fierce, with every match showcasing strong technique, strategic mastery, and mental resilience. The medals won by UNU Jogja’s athletes reflect their consistent training, solid teamwork, and remarkable fighting spirit cultivated through the university’s Pencak Silat Student Activity Unit (UKM).
UNU Jogja Rector, Widya Priyahita Pudjibudojo, expressed appreciation for the team’s remarkable achievement. “This accomplishment is a source of pride for all of us. May it inspire UNU Jogja students to continue striving for excellence, not only academically but also in non-academic fields,” she said.
Beyond bringing pride to the campus, this achievement reinforces UNU Jogja’s reputation as a university that supports holistic student development—integrating intellectual ability, skills, and sportsmanship.
With their success at the UPY Cup V, the UNU Jogja pencak silat team is more motivated than ever to face upcoming competitions. Full support from the university, coaches, and teammates continues to fuel their determination to achieve even greater accomplishments in the future. [Latifah]
