UNU Jogja Prepares to Welcome New Students in 2026, Emphasizing Services and Character Building

Yogyakarta, Indonesia - The academic community of Universitas Nahdlatul Ulama Yogyakarta (UNU Jogja) held its regular morning assembly as part of preparations to welcome new students for the 2026/2027 academic year on Monday (Sept. 21). The assembly served as a briefing session for university leaders, lecturers, and education staff ahead of the arrival of new students on campus for the Technical Meeting of GENIUS UNU Jogja 2026.

In his remarks, Acting Rector of UNU Jogja, Dr. Fahmy Akbar Idries, called on all members of the academic community to provide the best possible services to new students as they begin their university journey.

“I entrust these new students to all of you. Let us provide the best service so they can easily adapt and learn at our university. Their parents have placed their trust in UNU Jogja. They believe that through our institution, their children can more easily achieve their dreams,” he said.

GENIUS UNU Jogja, or Gebyar Orientasi dan Unjuk Ekspresi, is UNU Jogja’s scheme for the Introduction to Campus Life for New Students (PKKMB). Through GENIUS UNU Jogja Grow 2026, new students will not only be introduced to the campus environment but also equipped with values and skills to navigate university life.

GENIUS UNU Jogja Coordinator Jihad Wafa said GENIUS UNU Jogja Grow 2026 is being held in line with the direction of the Directorate General of Higher Education at the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology to enhance students’ understanding and familiarity with the campus environment, awareness of national identity, citizenship, and love for the country, while fostering an outstanding generation that is independent and responsible.

“Through GENIUS UNU Jogja Grow 2026, we want new students not only to become familiar with the campus environment but also to understand the values that will guide them throughout their educational journey at UNU Jogja,” Jihad said.

He explained that GENIUS UNU Jogja Grow 2026 will take place over three days, from Tuesday to Thursday, Sept. 22–24, 2026, featuring various activities focused on student development. The program adopts an approach that combines character building, motivation, and the development of new students’ potential.

One of the methods used to introduce students to the campus environment is an interactive game-based application. Through the application, all new students are directly involved in exploring and getting to know various facilities, spaces, and areas across the UNU Jogja campus in a more participatory way. 

The program also aims to build students’ character through values promoted by Ahlussunnah wal Jamaah, namely Tawasuth (moderation), Tawazun (balance in life), Tasamuh (tolerance), and I’tidal (justice and steadfastness).

A total of 439 new students, including two students with disabilities, will join UNU Jogja in the 2026/2027 academic year. To ensure that all students can participate optimally in academic activities and campus life, UNU Jogja has prepared facilities to support the needs of students with disabilities, including assistance from Relawan Teman Difabel, designated access routes, and accessible toilets.

In addition to participating in the campus orientation program, new students will also be introduced to the spirit of UNU Berdampak through a tree-planting activity involving 500 seedlings in two villages near the campus, Dowangan and Kaliabu. The activity is part of UNU Jogja’s effort to foster environmental awareness and encourage students to contribute to society from the beginning of their university journey.*
