UNU Jogja Encourages Faculty to Strengthen Global Publications through “From Research to Global Publication” Workshop

Yogyakarta, Indonesia — Based on the SINTA PTNU/LPTNU Overall Score as of June 2026, Universitas Nahdlatul Ulama Yogyakarta (UNU Jogja) is among the higher-performing universities in research productivity out of 186 Nahdlatul Ulama-affiliated universities (PTNU) across Indonesia. This achievement provides a strong foundation for UNU Jogja to further improve the quality and competitiveness of its scientific publications at the global level.

Director of Research and Publication at UNU Jogja, Irwan Novianto, said that although UNU Jogja is a relatively young university and has not yet reached its tenth anniversary, there are significant opportunities to expand its presence in global academic publications.

“We are very confident. The growing research activities among our academic community, both faculty members and students, provide an important foundation for UNU Jogja to improve the quality of its publications and achieve greater global recognition,” Irwan said.

Based on the research productivity assessment, UNU Jogja ranks 25th among 186 PTNU institutions. This position is higher than its overall ranking, which stands at 34th. According to Irwan, the achievement indicates that UNU Jogja’s research productivity is relatively strong, while the next challenge is to increase the impact of its publications through citations.

“Looking at the productivity data, our position is already quite good. This means our research output is relatively strong. The challenge now is not only to increase the number of articles, but also to improve their quality so that they are more widely read and cited by other researchers,” he explained.

He said several areas need further attention to improve UNU Jogja’s publication performance. These include the fact that article productivity has not yet been fully matched by a high citation rate, increasingly intense competition among universities, research efficiency, and the need to expand the university’s journal base.

Therefore, UNU Jogja will seek to improve its overall ranking by strengthening the quality and citation impact of its publications. These efforts will focus on strengthening research collaboration, developing journal infrastructure, and increasing the number of faculty members with publications and academic profiles indexed by Scopus.

In the short term, UNU Jogja is targeting an increase of 3,000 Overall Score points to reach the top 30 PTNU cluster. The university also aims to add one accredited journal and improve its research productivity ranking to the top 20 PTNU institutions nationally.

In the long term, UNU Jogja aims to rank among the top 10 PTNU institutions nationally based on the Overall Score, have at least three SINTA-accredited journals, and increase the proportion of faculty members with a Scopus H-index above 0 to at least 50 percent.

To support these targets, the Directorate of Research and Publication at UNU Jogja is organizing the From Research to Global Publication Workshop on a regular and sustainable basis on Thursday, August 27. The program is designed to strengthen the capacity of the academic community to develop research findings into competitive scientific publications at the global level.

“This workshop provides a space for faculty members, research teams, and students to learn how to develop research findings into higher-quality articles, select appropriate journals, and understand strategies for publishing research so that it can achieve a broader impact,” Irwan explained.

For the first session, UNU Jogja invited Gandeva Bayu Satrya, S.T., M.T., Ph.D., a lecturer in the Electrical Engineering Study Program at UNU Jogja, Senior Member of IEEE (SMIEEE), and Assistant Professor at Abdullah Al Salem University. He has produced hundreds of scientific publications at both national and international levels.

Gandeva’s participation is expected to provide an opportunity for UNU Jogja’s academic community to share experiences and strategies for developing research findings into publications suitable for international journals.

“I hope we can learn together, not only how to conduct good research, but also how to develop and present it as a high-quality publication so that it can have a broader impact,” Irwan concluded.
