UNU Jogja Strengthens Quality Assurance through SPMI Workshop Toward Excellent Accreditation

Yogyakarta, Indonesia – Universitas Nahdlatul Ulama Yogyakarta (UNU Jogja), through its Quality Assurance Institute (LPM), is strengthening the implementation of the Internal Quality Assurance System (SPMI) as part of its efforts to build a sustainable quality culture and pursue an Excellent (Unggul) accreditation rating.

The initiative was carried out through an SPMI Workshop held at the Pre-function Hall, 5th floor of UNU Jogja, on Wednesday, August 12, involving university leaders, directorates, deans, vice deans, heads of study programs, secretaries of study programs, heads of units, and Faculty Quality Assurance Groups.

Director of LPM UNU Jogja, Dr. Nurul Salehawati, said that strengthening SPMI is necessary to establish a shared understanding and commitment among university management in implementing quality assurance across the institution.

“Our current accreditation target is Excellent. To our speaker, we seek guidance and an overview so that our quality assurance processes can continue to improve,” she said.

She noted that seven study programs currently hold a Very Good (Baik Sekali) accreditation rating. Meanwhile, the Bachelor’s Program in Metallurgy and the Master’s Program in Islamic Studies are among the programs whose quality continues to be strengthened.

According to her, accreditation achievements cannot be separated from consistent implementation of SPMI. Therefore, the workshop focused on strengthening participants’ understanding of the PPEPP cycle, which consists of Establishment, Implementation, Evaluation, Control, and Improvement of Standards.

The workshop featured Zuliyati Rohmah, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D. Eng., Head of the Quality Assurance Unit at the Faculty of Biology, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), as a speaker providing guidance and insights on the implementation of quality assurance in higher education.

Meanwhile, Rector of UNU Jogja Dr. Fahmy Akbar Idries emphasized the university’s commitment to continuously strengthening educational quality and providing the best possible services to students. He said quality improvement must be carried out comprehensively, from student intake and the learning process to producing qualified graduates.

“We are striving to ensure that the quality of our SPMI and accreditation is strong. The input, process, and output all need to be good,” he said.

He emphasized that each study program plays an important role in ensuring that the educational process runs optimally and produces graduates with strong competencies and achievements. These graduates, he said, are among the indicators reflecting the quality of the educational process at the university.

In line with this effort, UNU Jogja will also hold GENIUS as part of its welcoming program and service provision for new students. The program reflects the university’s commitment to ensuring that students receive a positive educational experience from the moment they enter the campus environment.

“If we have good quality, one of the ways to demonstrate it is through GENIUS as an effort to provide the best service to students,” he said.

The Rector emphasized that strengthening educational services and quality requires collective efforts across all study programs. Each program is expected to work consistently to ensure that the learning process produces qualified students and graduates, while simultaneously strengthening the university’s quality achievements as part of its efforts toward institutional accreditation.
