Yogyakarta, Indonesia – Universitas Nahdlatul Ulama Yogyakarta (UNU Jogja), known as a cadre-based university, welcomed courtesy visits from SMA Ma’arif NU Jatinegara, Tegal, on Monday, Jan 12, and female students of TMI Al-Amien Prenduan Islamic Boarding School, Sumenep, Madura, on Friday, Jan 16. The visits aimed to strengthen institutional ties between Islamic boarding schools, secondary schools, and higher education institutions grounded in Islamic and NU values.
Director of External Pesantren Affairs at UNU Jogja, Irhas Badruzzaman, M.A., stated that the meeting reflects UNU Jogja’s commitment as a private university in Yogyakarta to support Nahdliyin youth in becoming globally competitive.
“UNU Jogja is here to encourage students to dream big and become future global leaders. Career opportunities for NU cadres today are widely open across sectors — from primary sectors such as agriculture and mining, secondary sectors like manufacturing and construction, to tertiary sectors including services, trade, finance, tourism, and healthcare, as well as quaternary sectors such as technology, research, and education,” he said before hundreds of students at the UNU Yogyakarta campus hall.
He also reaffirmed UNU Jogja’s commitment to producing globally competitive graduates who remain rooted in the values of Ahlussunnah wal Jamaah.

During the visit, the UNU Jogja Admission Team introduced various study opportunities at UNU Jogja as a globally competitive private university. This is reflected in alumni who have continued their studies abroad, including in China.
In addition, UNU Jogja students have achieved international recognition by winning awards at the International Islamic Science and Arabic Language Olympiad held at the Islamic University in Russia. This achievement further demonstrates the university’s growing presence in global academic competitions.
Representatives from Al-Amien Prenduan Islamic Boarding School and SMA Ma’arif NU Jatinegara expressed appreciation for the warm welcome. They noted that UNU Jogja’s educational model successfully integrates academic knowledge, Islamic values, and character development, while also opening opportunities for future collaboration in education and youth development.
The visit concluded with a campus tour, where students explored academic facilities and experienced campus life at UNU Jogja. The activity is expected to broaden students’ perspectives and motivate them in planning their higher education journey. [Latifah]
