UNU Jogja Pharmacy Students Win 3rd Place at the National Pharmaceutical Competition 2025

Lombok, Indonesia – Roikhan Ziaulhaq Aula and Anantasya Dwi Maghfiroh, students of the Pharmacy Study Program at UNU Jogja and members of Team TARO, successfully won 3rd Place in the National Scientific Essay Category of the Pharmaceutical Competition 2025 held in Lombok.

In the competition, Team TARO presented an innovation titled “SmartPatch Herbal Phytotherapeutics: A Biosensor Innovation Using Bay Leaves, Ginger, and Sambiloto for Real-Time Detection and Treatment of Gout.” This prototype integrates herbal-based active compounds with smart patch biosensor technology capable of both monitoring uric acid levels and providing therapeutic effects simultaneously. The approach was recognized as a relevant and applicable breakthrough in the development of modern phytotherapy.

Lecturer of the Pharmacy Study Program and team supervisor, M. Alfian, expressed his appreciation and pride for the students’ achievement. “This innovation demonstrates not only the academic capability of the students but also their readiness to respond to real-world health challenges. We hope that this work can continue to be developed and bring wider benefits to society,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Roikhan, representing the team, expressed gratitude for the achievement.
“We are grateful for this result. Thank you to the university leadership and all lecturers of the Pharmacy Study Program for their guidance and support from preparation to completion. This achievement motivates us to keep learning, expanding research capacity, and contributing further. We also hope it inspires other students to participate in competitions and continue to create meaningful work,” he said.
